FG Barnes Group becomes Carbon Neutral

With the help of Carbon Footprint Ltd, FG Barnes Group has completed a Carbon Footprint Appraisal of its greenhouse gases. We have offset all emissions and by doing so, have achieved Carbon Footprint Standard – Carbon Neutral Plus status – which supports a UK Tree Planting & Renewable Energy programme; which we will be focussing on the Thailand Biogas issue.

The Thailand Biogas project captures methane at a Thai starch plant using two closed anaerobic wastewater treatment facilities and converts the gas into energy, partially replacing the need for fossil fuel consumption. This project has a twofold effect: it prevents methane from harming the climate and also prevents thousands of tonnes of fossil fuel being burnt per year.

By planting trees across various locations in the South East of England, as a company we will be supporting local biodiversity and well as sequestering carbon. As a Group, we will be aiming to plant trees in the following postcode areas; CT, GU & ME as these are where our dealerships are located. We expect the trees to be planted in a combination of schools and nature reserve locations which will then also provide educational value to the schoolchildren and visitors of the reserves. For each tree planted, 1 tonne of CO₂ is “retired” in the “buddy” programme. We will be aiming to plant the trees over the autumn / winter period of 2021 leading into early 2022.

Mr Bala Waran, the FG Barnes Group Company Director, has said the following about the project, “As a company, we are thrilled to have achieved Carbon Neutral Plus status. This is a project that we’ve been working towards for a long period of time, so it feels great to have achieved the status. We look forward to planting trees within the local area over the coming months”.
