This August, Tony Ellis will be celebrating a career with FG Barnes Group spanning 50 years, having been interviewed with the chairman, Mr Douglas Barnes. Back in 1969 shortly after Tony's 15th birthday, he began his career in the Parts Department. The premises were then located on the A3, which would now stand in the middle of the B&Q Guildford car park.
His career began with hands on training, as well as a two years Mechanics City and Guilds qualification, at Guildford Technology College. However, Tony's passion for the field resulted in him studying the full four years course, qualifying as a Mechanic with specialism in Bedford Trades and Breakdown Services.
In 1971 the site was moved to Slyfield, with Tony operating in the Cost Office, as to handle the process of invoicing. As a committed member of the Barnes Social Club and Cricket team; acting as a notable cricket keeper, Tony has taken an active role within many aspects of the FG Barnes family. Since this time Tony has worked as a Service Advisor, Workshop Foreman and Tester, having decided to commit to his current role, Warranty Administrator.
Whilst dedicating his professional life to the FG Barnes Group, Tony has also been kept extremely busy with his family and personal life. Married to his wife Jayne for 41 years, with two children and a 2 year old grandson, life has certainly kept him on his toes. A dedicated golf player (even if he claims that this is more of a hobby than a skill), Tony and his family often enjoy travelling to the Lake District for walking holidays.
